Shipping

Last updated September 2026

Wine is not an ordinary parcel. It is heavy, it is fragile, it is temperature-sensitive, and federal and state law require that a legal adult sign for it. This page explains what that means for your order.

Where we ship

Direct-to-consumer wine shipping is governed state by state, and the list of states we can reach changes as our permits do. Rather than publish a list that goes stale, we show it live: enter your address at checkout and you will be told immediately whether we can ship to you.

If we cannot reach your state yet, no charge is made.

Adult signature is required

Someone 21 or older must be present to sign. Our carrier will check a government-issued photo ID at the door. No one under 21 can accept the package, and it cannot be left unattended — not on a porch, not with a neighbor, not in a lobby.

Because of this, we suggest shipping to a workplace or another address where an adult is reliably present during business hours. We cannot ship to PO boxes.

If no one is home

The carrier will attempt delivery three times, usually on consecutive business days. After the third attempt the package is returned to us. Returned shipments are refunded less the outbound and return shipping costs, which the carrier charges regardless of whether the wine arrived.

You can usually avoid this by watching for the tracking email and rerouting the package to a carrier pickup location.

Carrier and cost

We ship by UPS. Ground, 3 Day Select, 2nd Day Air, and Next Day Air are all available; you choose at checkout.

Shipping is calculated live from the weight of your order and the distance it travels, so the price you see at checkout is the real price. Ordering more bottles at once is materially cheaper per bottle than ordering them separately — a six-bottle shipment costs far less than six one-bottle shipments.

Timing

Orders are packed within two business days. We do not ship on Fridays or over holiday weekends, because wine sitting in a depot over a weekend is wine sitting in whatever temperature that depot happens to be.

Weather holds

During extreme heat or hard freezes we hold shipments until conditions improve, or ship by an expedited service to shorten the exposure. Heat is the enemy of a finished wine; a few days in our cellar is better than two days in a hot trailer. If your order is held, we will tell you.

When it arrives

Let the bottles rest upright in a cool, dark place for several days before opening. Wine that has just been shaken across three states does not show well straight out of the box. If a bottle arrives broken or the shipment is visibly damaged, photograph it before unpacking further and see our returns page.
